- Get lentil split black (urad dal)

- Soak them in water for 6to8 hours.
- Now wash beaten rice(poha) and drain away the water.
- Grind everything together.
- Add water gradually while grinding,till this batter gets a thick dropping consistency.
- Keep the batter covered in a warm place for 12 hours/overnight.
- The batter ferments to form a light and fluffy mixture.
- Next day in the morning stir the batter gently and add salt.
- Coat the appe girdle with oil and keep it on a low flame.
- Pour batter in the sockets of appe girdle.
- Cover and cook till the edges become brown.
- Flip the appe with a wooden skewer and cook the other side till its crispy and brown.
- Take the girdle off the flame.
- Serve these steaming hot appe with coconut chutney/tomato ketchup.
