  11. Make ready 1 Teaspoon green chilli finely chopped
  12. Get 1/2 Tablespoon chopped garlic finely
  13. Take 1/4 Teaspoon turmeric powder
  14. Take 1 Teaspoon chilli powder
  15. Prepare 1/4 Teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  16. Take To Taste Salt
Instructions to make Dal Tadka:
  1. Soak chana dal and tur dal in 30 minutes in warm water
  2. Boil the dal in pressure cooker up to 3 whistles and keep it aside
  3. Heat the oil in a pan then add cumin seeds and cloves, add onion as it crackles
  4. Stir it till onion is half cooked
  5. Add tomatoes and green chilli and stir till tomatoes are cooked
  6. Add salt, turmeric, chilli powder and mix it well
  7. Add dal and cilantro and mix it well
  8. Cook the dal for 7-8 minutes on medium heat and stir it occasionally*
  9. At the time of serving heat another pan with ghee
  10. Add whole and dry red chillies
  11. Add garlic and sauté it for 1-2 minutes
  12. Add asafoetida and sauté it for 30 seconds
  13. Pour the mix on to the dal and mix it
  14. Dal tadka is ready to be served
  15. Note: * Generally the consistency of this dal is thick, make the dal consistency as desired by adding water or boiling it for some more time.
